Context
The Uttar Pradesh government recently mandated food establishments to prominently display the names of key personnel like operators, proprietors, managers, etc., to customers.

• The Supreme Court of India, in July, stayed similar orders passed by the police in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, highlighting that such directives can only be issued by competent authorities under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA), 2006. The Court noted that the police were overstepping their powers.
